Life in Italics: Taking Your Time in Italy
By Tully Luxury Travel | 07-13-2021 |
The scope of luxury travel to Italy means finding a way to explore it from top to bottom. There’s a certain refinement that comes with fitting in a quick afternoon coffee – standing up and in about two sips. Aside from the ritual of the espresso, you can almost taste your first cannoli, can’t you?
When you visit Italy, all these daily moments of pleasure are a constant reminder that this is indeed a good idea – one of your best.
But first, a word to the wise: Italy has such an enormous volume of cultural heritage and chic modernity laid on so thick throughout the country, up and down, you can’t possibly see it all in one go. Let’s spread it out a bit.
Best times to travel: April-June, September-October

Smart luxury travel to Italy involves choosing a region to begin exploring and leaving the rest for another time – Italy is not going anywhere. You could spend a week in Rome or Milan and not scratch their smooth veneers. You need at least a week north of Milan in the Lake District or in the centuries-old small towns of Cinque Terre or along the Italian Riviera to experience them properly. Naples, the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum, the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast and points south: that’s a whole other trip, as is a week’s cycling adventure in Puglia.
Maybe you just need to shop for a whole month without setting foot inside a museum. Maybe you plop down in a gorgeous Tuscan villa, where the biggest concern of the day is what you’re having for dinner. Now that’s luxury.

Tully Luxury Travel can work this all out for you, so your itinerary is definitely written in italics. Our tours are totally bespoke, so whatever you feel like doing, we make it happen – the right luxury hotels, the finest meals, where to get passes for the hiking trails, how to navigate the sometimes confusing museum hours, and so on.
Things the travel guides won’t tell you? Start thinking about your wardrobe now – this is a stylish bunch. Keep in mind that the train schedules can be intimidating. And if you’re driving, maybe brush up on the road signs in advance to avoid confusion.
Maybe you have a friend who can give you a few Italian lessons? Just enough so you can order a gelato after lunch – another fine Italian ritual to help you appreciate life even more. Ah… Dolce Far Niente.
