Amman - Private Travel
A very modern place with an ancient core – Amman is the cultural and economic nucleus of Jordan.
The capital city of Jordan is experiencing an urban and cultural boom, now playing host to more than one million visitors each year. Luxury travel here takes in the ancient ruins as well as the modern malls and art galleries, with plenty of time for the excellent restaurants.
Your first stop is Jabal Al Qala’a, the Amman Citadel – a fortress for thousands of years, its history reaching as far back as the Bronze
Age. Here, you’ll see the pillars of the Roman Temple of Hercules and the series of buildings that comprise the 8th-century Umayyad Palace with its magnificent domed audience hall. A Byzantine church dates from the 6th century.
The famed Roman Theater, a stone amphitheater from the second century built into a downtown hillside, once held 6,000 people gathering within its three tiers.
Jordan Museum, next to City Hall, showcases the
nation’s history – including a portion of the Dead Sea Scrolls – from the beginning of civilization to the modern era. International and local contemporary art can be found at Darat Al Funun gallery.
Day trips from Amman whisk you out of town, north to the city of Jerash and south to the fascinating mosaics at Mount Nebo. Jordan private luxury tours can also carry on to the Dead Sea, the Masada National Park ruins, the ancient archaeological city of Petra and Wadi Rum.
