Discover ‘The Emerald City’ – Sydney, Australia
With its iconic architecture and beautiful harbor, Sydney is perhaps the best known and most visited of Australia’s cities. It welcomes visitors coming by air and sea, all keen on experiencing the best the Emerald City has to offer. The city’s natural beauty lends itself to long walks, either by the beach or through the lovely streets, and the temperate climate is perfect for enjoying dinner and drinks on a patio at one of Sydney’s world-class restaurants.
Sydney Essentials: Top 5 Things To Do
Bondi to Coogee Beach —Flanked by some of the most famous beaches in the world, Sydney is a sun-lover’s paradise. There’s no better way to enjoy a sunny day here than with a stroll along the breezy coast. Start in famous Bondi Beach and head out on the gorgeous trail that links it to Tamrama, Bronte, Clovelly and Coogee Beaches. The cliff top walk takes in stunning ocean views and lovely parks.
The Opera House
The most famous building in Sydney is of course the unique Opera House and the best way to experience the true beauty and charm of the Opera House is to take in a performance. For the ultimate experience, grab dinner first at the Bennelong, one of the country’s best restaurants. Located inside the Opera House, with a view over the harbour, Bennelong’s creative menu is inspired by celebrated chef Peter Gilmore.
To be fully appreciated, Sydney needs to be experienced from the water. If you didn’t arrive by ship (and even if you did), try taking a leisurely cruise along the harbor. Enjoy the views with a drink in hand or catch the sights while eating lunch or dinner. Sunset cruises are also incredible, offering a new perspective as the gorgeous harbor changes in the setting sun.
Although you could easily spend weeks exploring Sydney’s beauty, we do recommend a day trip to the Blue Mountains if time allows. Located about two hours west of the city, this mountainous area is made famous by the blue haze given off by the eucalyptus trees. Miles of hiking trails and dramatic scenery is on offer here, with the most known being that of the Three Sisters —a rock formation visible from Echo Point Lookout at Katoomba.
Discover Sydney’s colorful convict past and brilliant culture scene with a visit to the Rocks, an urban neighorhood that marks the historic settlement where the city began. Take a guided historic walk, shop for one-of-a-kind souvenirs in the craft shops or enjoy lunch at one of the delicious restaurants. With a vibrant energy and quirky sense of humor, the Rocks is sure to become one of your favorite Sidney stops.
