Antarctic Expedition: With Silversea Cruises

By Tully Luxury Travel | 06-05-2023 |

Cruise

It’s the farthest you will ever be from home, the bottom of the world, the Seventh Continent. Antarctica is truly a bucket-list event, a land of icebergs and glaciers, penguins and whales – best enjoyed in the luxurious lap of Silversea Cruises. The Silver Endeavour, Silver Cloud and Silver Wind are unequivocally our top choices for a luxury expedition to Antarctica, a dream voyage to a frozen wonderland of natural beauty and extraordinary wildlife.

Visit the most remote place on Earth.

The expanse, the solitude, the isolation – the mystery! – these things in themselves are key drivers for visitors to Antarctica, delivering a sensorial adventure like no other. The feeling that this is a very special place is hyperreal, almost tangible. Your time here is an otherworldly experience on an alien landscape, an alternate reality of glistening bays, filled with floating ice sculptures, towering mountains and big sky.

Silversea is the most luxurious choice.

Designed for polar expeditions, the Silver Endeavour is the newest addition to the Silversea fleet, with state-of-the-art equipment, advanced technology and a PC6 ice-class rating. She sails to both polar regions in luxurious style – with lots of onboard space, multiple restaurants, and lounges, and best of all, a crew-to-guest ratio of 1:1. The suites offer large verandas and stunning views, sumptuous furnishings and finishings, marble bathrooms and butler service. There is also a full spa and fitness center, and a two-story solarium with a pool. The Silver Endeavour is very nice to come home to after a day of communing with wildlife on the shores of the Antarctic Peninsula.

People are few but penguins are plentiful.

There are about 65 science research stations situated in Antarctica, populated by about 4,000 people during the summer in Antarctica from October to March. Penguins – now that’s a different story! Quite simply, the wildlife is out of this world – a realm of penguins, whales, dolphins, seals, petrels and albatrosses. There are about 20 million penguins in Antarctica across eight species, the three most common being: Adélie, gentoo and chinstrap. The Silversea Expedition Team will take you to penguin hotspots to witness their comical antics, maintaining a proper distance, of course.

You will never run out of things to do.

Morning and afternoon excursions get people off the ship and out enjoying the fresh Antarctic air – the temps usually around 20º F in the summer. Dressed to suit the weather, guests either take a Zodiac skiff boat to make a shore landing for a walkabout or to see a penguin rookery, or they take an easy Zodiac cruise though the icebergs and islands, poking into inlets and keeping an eye out for whales. After lunch, the process repeats itself, the ship now repositioned for a new environment. There are pebble-beach islands to visit, abandoned whaling stations, outposts and research stations to explore, and the polar plunge to tick off your checklist. A dedicated mudroom keeps everyone’s gear sorted and dry, with boots decontaminated to protect the fragile environment. Getting in and out of the Zodiacs has been made simple, to ensure your Antarctic exploration is as effortless as possible.

You don’t have to sail the Drake Passage.

Nicknamed the Drake Lake or Drake Shake depending on the weather, the Drake Passage is notorious for its waves. For some, that gamble is part of the fun, and if the waves are high, that’s part of the fun, too. But if you prefer to skip the two-day crossing each way, Silversea has the answer – the Antarctica Bridge, where guests fly from Puntas Arenas, Chile, straight to King George Island, Antarctica, where the Silver Endeavour sits waiting for you.

Get in touch today.

Find out how the Tully Luxury Travel Designers can get you aboard a Silversea voyage to Antarctica now. There’s never been a better time to sail the Southern Ocean to the Antarctic Peninsula – and Silversea Cruises is ready to take you there.
