You may feel you’ve done the sun vacation a million times, but have you considered casting a wider net? When the Caribbean no longer has the same call it once had, think about doing something different with your vacation time this year and add in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
Sun, sea, sand, skyscrapers, sports – Dubai has this winning quintet down pat, a glamorous seaside escape, fine-tuned specifically for the “in” crowd. But when is the best time to go to Dubai? That depends on whether you want the heat, the culture or just some R&R – timing is everything. Here are the key seasonal snapshots.
November to February
The winter months are a great time to visit Dubai. The temperatures are pleasant, with highs of 85º F and an average of 75º F. Beware that this is also high season, so the nice weather brings more visitors and higher hotel rates. But for beach-lovers and those looking to participate in outdoor activities like desert safaris and a visit to the Dubai Creek, this is the best time to go.
The sightseeing is very comfortable weatherwise in November, so you can wander the souks, stroll the waterfronts, including The Walk at JBR. You can visit Burj Khalifa – the world’s tallest building – and step into the Ain Dubai Ferris Wheel.
November and December are great months for families who want to explore the theme parks like IMG Worlds of Adventure, the gigantic Dubai Parks and Resorts, Legoland Water Park, Bollywood Parks Dubai, and Motiongate Dubai, a movie-themed park centered around Dreamworks Animation, Columbia Pictures and Lionsgate movie studios. Watch out for the crowds in January, a peak season that sees visitors flocking to the Dubai Shopping Festival, an annual event that draws thousands of people to the incredible sales, outdoor markets and live entertainment.
Spring and Fall
From March to May and from September to October, temperatures in Dubai range from 75º to 95º F. The nights are cooler, but the days are very nice, with a beach day not being out of the question like it would be at home. If the beach is absolutely your thing, visit in April and May, as the sea temperature is a comfortable 75º F. May and October bring more people – and demand, with the prices being higher. Be advised to steer clear of Ramadan, occurring in May or June, which gives the region a deserted feel, the shops and restaurants primarily closed.
June to August
Dubai low season is the summer months for good reason – average temperatures hit the 100º F mark and beyond, with the air extremely humid. The city is dazzling for sure, but the hot sun has everyone looking for shade and air conditioning. The early mornings are great for exploring and the evenings are cooler, of course. If you do end up traveling during this time, daytime activities can include water park fun, indoor theme parks and attractions, and plenty of shopping-mall wandering. Off-peak brings fewer crowds and shorter lineups.
Your trip to Dubai.
High season or low, Dubai is a thrill ride of stunning architecture and grandiose lavishness, a world unto its own. One last word of caution includes school breaks, which can pepper the calendar in February, March and December.
