Searching for your place in the sun has always been easy for visitors to Hawaii - It is everywhere you look, a ubiquitous welcome. The 50th State has been a magnet for palm tree-swaying lazing in the shade for decades, with generations of visitors returning with tales of sun and sand, leis and luaus, watersports and eco-adventure. But whether you’re looking for the best waves or the hottest sun, you need to know when the best time to go to Hawaii is so you can make the most of your holiday. Let us lend you these travel pointers.
How about any time at all?
Truly, any given month brings an easy feeling in Hawaii, the temperatures running between 75º and 85º F. The beach is pretty terrific year-round, the marine life is plentiful – rays and sea lions, reef fish and giant turtles – and rainforests and volcanoes present one big adventure after another. World-class culinary delights across the whole archipelago are legendary and so very satisfying. One thing to note here is that March to September bring the least rain.
Low season is alluring…
April to mid-June is a tropical paradise, the flowers blooming with the heat rising. The summer crowds have not yet arrived at this time, so the islands have a peaceful aura and the big waves that can hammer the shorelines are rather subdued. Mid-August to mid-September is also an off-peak point of interest, as the crowds begin to taper off then, and there are deals to be had, including low air fares, particularly if you travel mid-week. Keep in mind that July and August are very busy with school out, with an influx of visitors from the American mainland.
…but fall is the sweet spot.
September and October is the best time of year to visit Hawaii. Visitors enjoy low prices, fewer crowds, high temperatures and warm water. There is lots of sun, although you can experience the occasional storm and some turbulent seas. But all in all, this is the choice time for those in the know. Visiting Hawaii after Labor Day, with everyone is so busy back home, you can have space to breathe, taking advantage of the tranquility and perfect temps, along with great underwater visibility to enhance the ample marine adventure.
Don’t give up on rainy season.
November to March are the wettest months, when you will need to pack suitable gear for keeping dry. That said, the rains never last long, so you won’t be taking cover the entire day. Two big benefits of traveling to Hawaii at this time? January to March is the best time to see humpback whales and the best time for surfers looking for the giant waves to catch. Keep in mind that February and March are the coolest months, perfect for those who are not total heat-seekers yet still enjoy the tropical island paradise that Hawaii is so proudly renowned for.
