This is a bucket-list adventure
Based on its combined width and height, Victoria Falls is the largest waterfall in the world, an overwhelming natural phenomenon. This is grandeur on a whole other plain, a spectacle that has garnered the nickname: The Smoke That Thunders. The mist of the falls can be seen from miles away, and the rainbows it creates are incredible, particularly in the late afternoon or early morning. These are the best times to visit the falls. Additionally, a rare lunar rainbow has been known to occur – or moonbow – when the full moon is out and the skies are clear.
Go for the thrills!
Victoria Falls attractions include numerous avenues for adventure. In fact, the region is a hub for adventure tourism. Visitors can white-water raft in the rapids below the falls, go ziplining, take a helicopter flightseeing tour over the falls for an aerial view or even bungee jump from the Victoria Falls Bridge. The bridge is a marvel of engineering, the perfect spot for the perfect shot.
Sitting at the edge of the falls is The Devil’s Pool, a natural infinity pool. During dry season when the water levels are low, visitors can swim in it and look over the edge of the falls. Livingstone Island provides another popular vantage point.
Visit the nearby national parks
Victoria Falls is surrounded by two national parks – Mosi Oa Tunya National Park in Zambia and Victoria Falls National Park in Zimbabwe. Each is filled with opportunities for exploring, offering excellent avenues for game drives and game viewing, trekking safaris and birding, the wildlife protected by the forest mandates.
The Zambeze River itself is a great habitat for a variety of wildlife, including hippos, crocodiles, elephants and many bird species.
